Ethics

Today, or rather most of the last week, I’ve been trying to figure out how we come to our ethical view. I’m well aware that every individual has an opinion, but my question is how does that person form that opinion. Strange I know, I don’t actually care what the topic is, or the opinion, I want to know what the driving force was behind coming to that conclusion.

For me, I try to formulate my opinions based on the Bible. I try to use it as my template, but even there I find it is sometimes difficult. If I start at the beginning, Genesis, and examine Adam and Eve eating the apple, I can’t help but conclude that not all knowledge is good. That becomes, just because I can, doesn’t mean I should.

I know this could be a long drawn out debate, but I like to put my characters through the angst of developing their own ethical conclusions. No two people see everything the same, so what makes it the right choice?

I don’t have the answer. Do you?
